The Sita family’s roots trace back to Mammola, a picturesque town in Reggio Calabria, Italy. For generations, the family dedicated themselves to shepherding and farming, mastering the art of cheese-making. This cherished tradition has been lovingly passed down through the years, producing a range of cheeses, from fresh varieties like ricotta and mozzarella to aged classics such as pecorino.
Their artisanal cheeses, along with homemade salamis and olives, quickly became a local favorite, gracing the tables of their region. The exceptional quality and craftsmanship of their products turned a humble passion into a thriving business, earning the family recognition and establishing their legacy in the community.
At the heart of their farms, everything begins with a commitment to the well-being of their animals, ensuring the highest quality milk. Traditional methods, combined with uncompromising quality standards, continue to define their cheese-making process and serve as the foundation of selection for their products.
In 1958, part of the Sita family migrated to Belgium, where they expanded their fresh cheese production and introduced the finest Italian cheeses to European markets. Over time, they built a reputation for excellence, becoming a trusted name in the import and distribution of Italian cheeses—a legacy of quality that endures to this day. Along the way, they formed a network of like-minded families and partners, all passionate about preserving the art and integrity of cheese-making.
In 2007, Alessandro Sita, a third-generation member of the family, brought their rich traditions and expertise to the United States.
His mission: to introduce American consumers to the exceptional quality of Sita’s artisanal cheeses and products.
